NutriSTEP

NutriSTEP™ (Nutrition Screening Tool for Every Preschooler) is currently undergoing trademark registration in Canada and the US. This valid and reliable preschool nutrition screening index (in English and French), along with a supporting toolkit, will be available in 2007.

Discussions are taking place in Ontario as well as in other provinces to promote and support preschool nutrition screening using NutriSTEP™. This could include:
  • Working with educators, primary health care and social service providers to promote and provide preschool nutrition screening and identify opportunities for parents to access professional consultation regarding screen completion, interpretation and follow up when required.

  • Providing opportunities for parents of preschoolers to conduct nutrition screening through the distribution of NutriSTEP™ and parent nutrition education materials in a variety of settings. Proposed venues include JK/SK school registration packages, primary caregiver offices, and parent education programs.
For further information on the ongoing research and evaluation activities for this project, please email your inquiries to nutrstep@uoguelph.ca. Background information, past project bulletins and the NutriSTEP™ parent education materials, are listed below.
