The Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) welcomes media enquiries on public health issues and is committed to working collaboratively with the media to provide accurate and timely information to promote and protect health and to prevent disease and injury in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts. This information is provided to the media in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and SDHU policies.

SDHU staff follow established policies and procedures when responding to media requests, and have a responsibility to balance the information necessary to inform and educate the public while upholding individual privacy and confidentiality rights.

Media Access to Sudbury & District Health Unit Sites

If you are planning to visit a Health Unit office or an off-site event, please call Communications in advance to help facilitate your visit. If you plan on interviewing or photographing members of the public, you must obtain their consent.

Hours of Operation

Regular business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. After regular business hours, on weekends, and on statutory holidays, please leave a message at 705.522.9200, ext. 484 and we will follow up on your request the next business day.

The Health Unit maintains a 24-hour message service for public health emergencies. For media requests related to public health emergencies after regular business hours, on weekends, and on statutory holidays, please call 705.688.4366 and your call will be directed appropriately.

Privacy and disclosing information

1.  Disclosure of information to the media:

The duty of the Sudbury & District Health Unit to protect privacy and confidentiality is directed by applicable legislation, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004; the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 1990; and the Health Protection and Promotion Act, 1990. Communication with the news media shall follow established Health Unit procedures and balance the amount of information necessary to inform and protect the public with protecting and upholding privacy and confidentiality.
