Health Unit Postpones H1N1 Community Clinics

Health Unit Postpones H1N1 Community Clinics

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2009

Due to H1N1 vaccine delivery delays, the Sudbury & District Health has postponed its community clinics until further notice.  The Health Unit is concentrating its delivery of the limited vaccine supply to health care providers’ offices during this shortage.

People in high priority groups are asked to call their health care provider to see if they have the vaccine. For a list of priority groups eligible for the vaccine, visit www.sdhu.com.

The Health Unit community clinics were originally scheduled throughout its service area from November 9 to November 21.

“We are disappointed to have to postpone our community clinics; however, if you already have an appointment to get your H1N1 flu shot at a Health Unit office, we expect to be able to keep those appointments,” said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Sudbury & District Medical Officer of Health. “Additional limited appointments may still be available, Call the Health Unit office in your area.”

Here are the numbers to call:

Sudbury  522-9200 Espanola  222-9202
Chapleau 860-9200

Manitoulin Island 370-9200

Sudbury East 222-9201

Please visit the Health Unit’s website at www.sdhu.com for H1N1 information and clinic updates. The Health Unit will notify the public when the community clinics resume.

The following is the Health Unit’s vaccine distribution to date. Numbers include the doses expected to be provided to health care providers’ offices today:

  • 15,384 doses administered through Health Unit community clinics
  • 4050 doses provided to hospitals
  • 15,850 doses provided to physicians and other vaccine delivery agents

Dr. Sutcliffe reminds people that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s on-line self-assessment tool can help people decide what to do when they think they may have the flu.
