Beach Warning Issued: City of Greater Sudbury

Friday, August 3, 2012

The Sudbury & District Health Unit has posted warning signs at the following beach advising that it is unsafe for swimming at this time:

  • Capreol Beach, City of Greater Sudbury

Going into the water puts bathers at risk for infections on the skin, and in the eyes and nose. Stomach disorders can also occur. Illness can occur if swimmers swallow beach water; if water gets into their ears, eyes, or nose; or if it comes in contact with open wounds.

Routine water samples taken by the Health Unit exceeded the acceptable bacteriological water quality standards for bathing beaches.

“We have enhanced our monitoring and will continue taking water samples,” said Holly Browne, a manager in the Health Unit’s Environmental Health Division.

The public will be notified when the bacterial levels are within acceptable levels. For information about beach water quality, visit www.sdhu.com.
