In northeastern Ontario, our beautiful lakes are perhaps our greatest natural resource.
When summer arrives and warm weather follows, the many beaches in the Sudbury and Manitoulin
Districts are the perfect place for you and your family to relax and stay cool.

However, sometimes the water at the beach may contain bacteria that can pose a risk to your health.
The Sudbury & District Health Unit regularly tests the water at our beaches for bacteria. When
bacterial counts are above provincial guidelines, the health unit notifies the public and ?posts?
the beach as unsafe for swimming. Although most swimmers will not become ill, the possibility of
illness increases with high bacteria counts. To avoid illness, it?s best to stay out of the water
when a beach is posted.

This page provides you with information on the current water quality status at the 32 beaches
that the Sudbury & District Health Unit monitors.
